FAQ

How many people can be accommodated?

A maximum of 14 people can be accommodated on the property at any one time, including visitors,  children and babies. This is due to septic limitations as well general wear and tear. We have a septic system located at beach level which we cannot overload.  The Whidbey Beachfront House comes equipped with 2 king size beds in separate bedrooms, 3 queen beds in separate bedrooms, 2 twin bunk beds, 1 twin captains bed with twin trundle, one queen sleeper, and a daybed.

Do you allow pets?
I’m afraid that we are not able to accommodate pets.

Do you have any bedroom floor plans available, and/or a layout of the property?
For Bedroom layout, please see complete bedroom descriptions at bottom of this page, or this floor plan. Here is an architectural sketch of the property layout.

Can we have our wedding here?
Sorry, we cannot accommodate weddings.

Are there any other booking restrictions?
Our family enjoys sharing our vacation home with our guests who appreciate its amazingly peaceful setting and treat the house and property like their own. However, we no longer accept bookings from unrelated groups of young people, for bachelor party weekends, or for parties where alcohol, drugs, or loud music are the major draw. 14 people is the maximum number of guests we can accommodate, including visitors.

Can we tour the property prior to booking?  We are not set up for tours and the property is often booked on weekends. We have provided this website to answer any questions you may have, as well as provide a “virtual tour” with plenty of pictures. For longer stays of one month or more, we can sometimes arrange for an on-site visit if requested.

Is there a grocery store nearby?
Yes, there is a wonderful supermarket (the best on the island) less than 10 minutes away. They have bulk food, gourmet ingredients, great produce, seafood, and meat dept, a large organic section, artisan breads, and an in house bakery.

What about internet access?
We have broadband DSL and WiFi throughout the property (even at the beach).  In 2015 we added additional wifi transmitters so that coverage is good on all parts of the property.  We get excellent cell phone reception on the property as well.

Please tell me about your pool.
Our private 20 x 40’ deep water outdoor pool was originally built in 1960. It is fully fenced, locked, and heated by solar panels.   Water levels range from 3 on the east end to 10’on the deep end, and an adult must be supervising at all times. It is a fabulous place to relax in the summertime and in 2014 we replastered the entire pool surface,  added modern blue tiles.  Other recent upgrades have been upgraded the pool deck,  pool plumbing, and bathroom.

I’ve heard that you’ve been busy! What renovations have you made?
2001   Interior remodel of beach cabin to create the bedroom area.  Interior wall with recycled windows and door added.  Installed Bosch dishwasher,  new stainless sink, and solid surface countertop.

2002    Upgraded septic system- installed 3 stage sand filter system located under the large lawn at the beach and pumped to the elevated garden area to north of the lower wood shed.  System services all 3 structures.  Installed lawn and planted gardens.  Installed granite tile counters in main house, new sink and faucet.

2003  New refrigerator,  washer,  dryer,  and new Toto toilets in every bathroom.   Teak dining table and bench for main house.

2004  New Hotspring hot tub,  Satellite TV,  2 new gas fireplaces,  bedrooms upgraded with goosedown comforters,  Egyptian cotton sheets,  new duvets,  new towels,  new lighting.

2005  New concrete stairs and handrails to beach.   Oak card table and chairs in atrium.   Huge invasive ivy removal project and new plantings.   New Adirondack chairs at beach.

  • Bulkhead replacement-  we lost the old creosote pilings in the Superbowl storm Feb ’06,  and replaced it with an attractive low concrete seawall.

2007-8   Major remodel of main house.   The entire lower level was removed down to dirt.  We then excavated 3-4 feet and poured a new foundation underneath,  so that there is a “new house” underneath the upper section.  Upstairs full bath was reduced to a powder room,  with former shower now a kitchen pantry.  New roof deck, stainless barbeque,  outdoor furniture,  46” surround sound HDTV theatre.   All new utilities and electrical/plumbing in preparation for kitchen remodel in 2009.

2009-10  Our big kitchen remodel.   The kitchen was expanded significantly, with professional appliances, luxury finishes, and a new picture window opening beach views to the north.

In record time (6 weeks) our team of Whidbey craftsman completed the kitchen.  We also restained and refinished the hardwood floors in the kitchen and living room.   The beach cabin was repainted,  new flooring and baseboards installed,  and the built-in sectional in the cabin was completed.  New “slate” roof using material made from recycled tires on the main house.

2011  New front door on main house with stained glass insert and integrated keyless entry lock.

2013  Major upgrade for main house living room, re-routing fireplace venting to outside,  which allowed us to install a 40” flatscreen TV above the fireplace.  Built in window seat provides comfortable place to stretch out and relax as well as hidden storage below for TV cable box and DVD player.

2014  Repaved most of the beach driveway and house entrance.  Installed new second Bosch dishwasher in main house kitchen.  Replastered and retiled the pool, first time in 54 years!   Installed screens on all opening windows.

2015  New tiled shower enclosure and granite counter top in lower beach cabin.  Improved wifi coverage on all parts of property by installing additional wifi transmitters.
